It’s a time for celebration: graduation day. In a few short hours the Ellery High Class of ’92 will march down the football field to collect their diplomas.
At the ceremony grounds, Principal Facultez, fastidious to a fault, strides down the lengths of chairs ensuring perfect symmetry in each row. Reaching the lectern, he turns on his heels, surveying the empty audience.
As he basks in the glory of a perfect arrangement, a raindrop lands on his hand. Fear dashes across his face: rain would ruin everything! Looking down, the droplet is fire engine red. Blood. The graduation stage blurs and he falls. The principal’s neck has been ripped open by a protractor. Dead as Dickens.
